THE LANGUAGE OF FAITH: SIN - GUIDE
Share the high points and the challenging points of the week for each person.
Then spend time praying for one another, our nation and our world.
We have started a new sermon series “The Language of Faith.” The words we use at church
and as we talk about faith are important. Sometimes they can mean different things to different
people.
● What associations come to your mind when you hear the word “sin?”
● Why does this word sometimes make people shudder?
● One of the meanings of the biblical word for sin is to miss the mark. What does missing
the mark mean to you?
● One of the major ways we miss the mark is by not loving as Jesus has told us to love.
Read Matthew 22:37-40. If this is our aim, how can we do this and hit the mark?
● What is your understanding of the ways God meets us in our sin? Do you understand
him as judging? Compassionate? Gracious? Condemning?
● Knowing that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), what
helps you in how God sees you?
● How can we honestly acknowledge our sin without feeling like God is angry with us?
● Read 1 John 1:8-9. What speaks to you in these words?
