the Language of faith: holiness - guide

Share the high points and the challenging points of the week for each person. Then spend time

praying for one another, our nation and our world.

We have started a new sermon series “The Language of Faith.” The words we use at church

and as we talk about faith are important. Sometimes they can mean different things to different

people.

● What associations come to your mind when you hear the word “holy?”

● The Hebrew and Greek words for “holy” mean “unique” or “set apart.” Read Genesis 2:3

and notice how the word is used about a particular day.

● The word is used most often to describe God. When you think of God as holy, what

images and thoughts come to you?

● The main text for the sermon was Isaiah 6:1-9. What does Isaiah experience?

● Leviticus 19:1-2 calls God’s people to be holy. Peter repeats this in 1 Peter 1:15-16.

Read these passages. How can we be holy? What does this look like? What do we think

God expects of us? Is it just being more moral, or is it something else?

● How are believers and worshippers of God to be different and unique in our world?
