Stories Jesus Told: Unforgiving Servant - Guide
Open with Prayer
Heavenly Father, open our ears to hear you. Open our eyes to see you. Open our hearts
to love you. Open our minds to know you. Let your Spirit guide this time so that we are drawn
closer to you. Amen.
Read Matthew 18:23-25
● What catches your attention in this story of Jesus?
Read verses 21 and 22.
● Why does Jesus tell this story?
● Have you ever been forgiven by someone? What was that like?
● Have you ever had to forgive someone? What was that like?
● What does it take to show mercy to a person who has hurt or offended us?
● Our picture of God will often determine how we live. Do you see God as merciful, and if
so, how?
● Do you ever feel that God’s forgiveness has limits?
● From the sermon: “We must let mercy move into us before it can move out of us.” What
does this mean to you?
● Jesus speaks of forgiveness quite often. For example Matthew 6:14,15; Luke 7:47,48.
He also tells people they are forgiven. Why do you suppose this was such a central part
of Jesus’ ministry?
