Stories Jesus Told: The Workers In The Vineyard - Guide

Open with Prayer.

Warm up question:

● What’s the best job you have ever had in terms of pay?

Have someone read the parable of Jesus in Matthew 20:1-16

● What is your initial reaction to this story of Jesus?

● Why does Jesus have the landowner keep going back to find other workers? Could this

be saying something about God? If so, what does it say about God?

● In the sermon, Zach shared a quote by Henri Nouwen that “There is always enough of

what God loves to give.” How does this quote strike you and how might it relate to this

story of Jesus?

● Who is given the most?

● How does this parable read and what can it mean if the workers who were hired last

were picked last because they were unwanted and overlooked?

● Do you ever worry about God not having enough for you? Enough love? Grace?

Patience? Time? Attention?

Share any other thoughts or reflections that might be coming up for people.

Close with prayer

Lord of the vineyard, thank you that the kingdom of God is a place of abundance, where

God has plenty to give no matter who we are. Bless us as we continue through this week.

Remind us of your gracious love. Whether we have been in your vineyard a long time or are

brand new, help us remember we are all your children. Amen.
