Stories Jesus Told: The Good Samaritan - Guide

Open with Prayer.

Warm up question:

● Who is the best neighbor you ever had and what made them such a great neighbor?

Read Luke 10:25-37

● Why does Jesus tell the parable of the Good Samaritan?

● How would you describe the lawyer’s mindset?

● One of the points of the sermon is that the lawyer is trying to be right whereas the

Samaritan is making it right. What’s the difference?

● “The Good Samaritan” title is not from the Bible, but was given centuries later by people

who thought this is an appropriate title. What would be other possible titles for this

parable? (i.e. The Arrogant Lawyer, The Hurting Traveler...)

● What motivates you to help or keeps you from helping someone right in front of you who

has a need, whether that need is physical, emotional, mental or other?

● What is the most challenging part for you of showing compassion to someone?

● The final phrase Jesus speaks is “Go and do likewise.” What does this mean?

● What is something new you have gained that you never noticed before when

encountering this story of Jesus.?

Close with prayer, asking God to help you be merciful with the strength to do as the Samaritan

did.
