Community INITIATIVES

We believe God is at work in the world around us—and that the people in our community are already joining in that work in beautiful and meaningful ways. Our Community Initiatives are a way of supporting, celebrating, and participating in that work together.

Each year, we select up to four initiatives led by people within our community. Throughout the year, we’ll share their stories and invite our community to come alongside them through giving, serving, and showing up. It’s one small way we make space for the community to lead the community as, together, we join God in the renewal of all things.

The HNH Sanctuary

HNH sanctuary is a 501c3 nonprofit livestock rescue setting up in Herriman, committed to giving sanctuary to at-risk horses who are disabled, abused or slaughter-bound, teaching the next generation about ethical stewardship, and cultivating community in the barnyard. Endless ways to get involved like coming to visit the animals at a workshop or event, signing your kiddos up for horse lessons, or volunteering time if you’re in your cowboy or cowgirl era!

Tandika

Tandika is a nonprofit in Jinja, Uganda focused on empowering women, in part, through no-interest business loans. They have helped 104 women start businesses so far. Their motto is “Empowering Women. Transforming Communities.

Our shared shed

Our Shared Shed is a virtual library of things bulletin board-esque list of available items that people have to share in the format of a library checkout.  People include any number of items and how long they are willing to lend them out.

The Resource Library lets us share seldom-used items so we can turn to each other before buying something new.
The goals for the fall are to find two or three partners to help build out the principles, logistics, and library database. After that, the goal is to have people begin filling out items to share.

Afternoon Worship Service at Primary Children's Hospital

Nancy Cormack- Hughes, The Spiritual Care Supervisor at Primary Children’s Hospital, has identified for a Christian worship service on Sunday afternoons for families and staff.

We are looking for a team of people to lead a monthly brief and simple worship time which includes music, a message, and prayer.

This opportunity seeks to provide hope, healing, hospitality and love for people who want to connect with God amidst the difficult circumstances of being in the hospital.
