Stories Jesus Told: The Ten Bridesmaids - Guide
Open with Prayer
Warm Up Question:
● What is a time you had to wait a very long time?
Read Matthew 25:1-13
● What is your initial reaction to this parable?
This parable comes at the end of Jesus’ teaching about the coming destruction of Jerusalem
and the end of time. The disciples have asked him when this will all take place. Jesus doesn’t
give a time, saying the time is only known to the Father, but that people are to be awake and
ready.
● Why are the virgins/bridesmaids with extra oil wise?
● Jesus seems to be teaching to be prepared for the wait and what it requires. How we
live life matters in the waiting. So, what kind of person will you become as we wait for
God?
● If you could put in one word the person you strive to become, what would that word be?
● How can we - individually and as a church community - share God’s love and be
involved in what God is doing in this time of waiting?
Close with prayer and asking God to keep you awake to his coming and to help you be this type
of person.
