The Language of Faith: faith - guide
Open with prayer then throw out this question to get people talking:
● What is your favorite emoji to use?
The word from our “language of faith” that was the focus of the sermon is the word “faith.”
Read Hebrews 10:35-11:6
● What do you notice in this passage? How many times is the word “faith” used? What
does this passage say about faith?
Go around the circle and have each person complete this statement: “Faith is...”
Have each person respond to each of these statements: (True/false? Agree/disagree?
Maybe/maybe not? Why?)
Faith is believing the right things about God.
Faith is believing deep and having strong conviction.
Faith is like an object that we possess.
Faith is passive and doesn’t ask anything of us.
Read James 2:18. Read Hebrews 10:8.
● Why might Abraham be called the “patron saint of faith?”
● “Faith is a verb rather than a noun. It is a journey without maps.” This was quoted in the
sermon. How does this strike you?
Faith is relational. It is more than merely believing the right things. It is putting our trust in the
living God.
● Where is God inviting you to take a step of trust and put your relationship with God in
motion?
Close by praying for our world, our church, and for one another.
