Stories Jesus Told: The Sower - Guide
Have everyone check in and then open with Prayer
We have begun a series on the parables of Jesus. Parables are short stories Jesus would tell
to illustrate the kingdom of God and the way God works.
Read Matthew 13:1-23.
● Each person share something that strikes you in the parable or Jesus’ explanation.
● What might this parable say about God given the sower throws seed recklessly and
everywhere?
● What do we make of Jesus’ explanation in v. 13?
● What do we make of Jesus’ statement in v. 16?
● Why do you think Jesus spoke so often in parables?
One of the words in the sermon was that to be “blessed” does not mean to necessarily
understand or be totally certain. It is to listen. The sower is generous in giving the “seed” in
many ways and opportunities. The question is how do we hear?
● How and in what ways do you listen or and hear the Lord? Or, how in your life are you
hearing Jesus?
● How does our listening yield a harvest as opposed to taking no root or yielding nothing?
● Jesus mentions different yields of fruit (30, 60, and 100 times what was sown). What
does producing a "good crop" actually look like in your daily thoughts, actions, and
relationships?
