On The Road: Moses In Midian - Guide
Opening Prayer
Loving Father, thank you for gathering us tonight. Bring us together in mind and soul
through your Spirit. Quiet us from the noise of this day. Mend us from the wounds of this
day. Thank you for your love that meets us where we are.
Come Lord Jesus. Amen.
Our current sermon series is called “On The Way.” Faith is a journey. We are always on the way
toward and with God. We are people in process. The series is exploring various biblical people
and the ups, downs, challenges and blessings of their path.
Warm up question: How would you describe where you are in your journey of faith right now?
(i.e. Walking steadily? Running fast? Sitting in the mud? Waiting at the bus stop? Hacking
through the jungle? Other?)
The Sunday sermon focused on Moses. Jonny called him “the Bible’s most famous road
warrior.”
● Why do you think this phrase might fit Moses?
● What do you know about Moses and his story?
Read Exodus 33:12-19
● What is Moses wrestling with?
● What do you suppose he wants?
● How would the promise of the Lord’s presence help Moses?
● Why do you think the Lord said he would give Moses rest? (v. 14)
● One of the points of the message on Sunday was that rest requires having and doing
less. What might you need to have/do/be less of in order to experience more of the rest
God gives?
Read Matthew 11:28-30 in The Message version of the Bible:
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and
you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with
me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy
or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
● Share how this speaks to you.
● What does it mean to you to “learn the unforced rhythms of grace”?
Close with prayer. Pray for the lessons that came from your time together, and for one another.
