On The Road: David on the Run - Guide
Open with prayer asking God to direct your hearts and mind to him.
As we continue a sermon series called “On the Road” we consider David.
● What do you know of David’s story?
Read 1 Samuel 24:1-16
● What did you notice in this event?
● God’s plan is to have David succeed Saul and become king. Why wouldn’t David do
away with the person who is in the way of all God has for him?
● David’s men say that this is the day the Lord spoke of, yet there is no evidence
anywhere that the Lord said this. What do you think is going on here?
● Jonny said that one of the greatest challenges to our integrity is our capacity for
self-justification. How does this relate to David and how does this statement sit with you?
● Why is it easy to believe what we want must be what God wants? How can we tell the
difference?
● What qualities does David show in this event?
Go another step
read Matthew 4:1-13.
● How does Jesus show integrity?
After fasting for 40 days, Jesus is tempted by Satan at His physical weakest. Rather than
taking a shortcut or compromising His mission for power, food, or status, He firmly
resists by anchoring every response in scripture.
● While David was destined to become king he had to wait for God’s timing. He would
become king in God’s way not by forcing his way. Is there a place in your life where you
are tempted to force the way but know that would not show integrity?
Close by praying for one another. Pray for God to help us be people of integrity.
