assembly required: the lord’s supper - guide

Open with prayer

Share the high points and the challenging points of the week for each person.

Read 1 Corinthians 11:17-26

● What is Paul’s tone in his words to the Corinthians?

[Background note: The rich and wealthy and those with means were coming early and

having their own dinner party while excluding those with less. Sometimes they were

even getting drunk. Those who didn’t have much would come and most of the food

would be gone and would even have to sit in a different area. Some people weren’t

coming for the Lord’s Supper. They were coming to indulge themselves. People were

missing the point of the Lord’s Supper.]

● How is what we do at the table a community event? In what ways does the table

connect us? In what ways does it help our assembly?

● What convictions do you bring to the Lord’s table? What do you think it is for? Why do

we do it? What meanings does it have for you?

● Heather said that the Lord’s Supper is not just a ritual or our own personal moment.

How do you think about this?
