COVID-19 Response

  • UPDATES REGARDING SUNDAY SERVICE GATHERINGS

Over the last few weeks, we’ve received updates from federal and local officials regarding the state of the coronavirus pandemic. The Salt Lake County Health Department, in accordance with CDC metrics, have designated Salt Lake County as a medium COVID transmission level. As a result, guidelines for individuals and communities have been updated to reflect changes to the transmission level. With these updated guidelines in mind, alongside a growing wealth of evidence demonstrating the ability of vaccines, boosters, and high quality masks to mitigate severe disease and transmissibility, we’ve decided to make a few adjustments to how we move forward as a community in this pandemic:

    • Masks are now optional at Missio gatherings.

    • KN95 respirators will be provided at Missio gatherings and are encouraged to be utilized, particularly by those at greater risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19. Quality masks, when properly worn, are highly effective at preventing transmission to and from an individual.

    • Adequate ventilation will continue to be supplied at Missio gatherings.

    • Those who are symptomatic for COVID-19 are still recommended to join us remotely.

    • All are highly encouraged to be up to date on COVID vaccinations.

We want to continue to be open to adapting in order to best serve those around us, and we welcome any feedback for other ways that we as a community can be supportive.

  • UPDATES REGARDING SUNDAY SERVICE GATHERINGS

    • Due to increasing Covid cases and the recent mask mandate instituted by Salt Lake County, we’re asking that if you’re planning to attend, would you please wear masks to all gatherings for the foreseeable future.

    • Additionally, if you or anyone in your family is experiencing illness would you join us for worship online instead of in person.

    • We will continue to hold Sunday service without registration

    • We will maintain a live stream option for worship gatherings

    • We will continue to keep distancing between rows of chairs

    • We will continue to have the building professionally cleaned weekly

    • We will have doors open for ventilation

    MISSIO KIDS UPDATE

We will have two classrooms open: Nursery for 0-3 and the Pre-K-Elementary Class for 4+

We will require kids 3+ to wear masks during Missio Kids

We will open more classrooms as we gain volunteers

  • WE HAVE MADE AN ATTEMPT TO CONSIDER A VARIETY OF FACTORS IN THINKING THROUGH HOW WE GATHER.

We will maintain a live stream option for worship gatherings (i.e. Sundays, Good Friday, and Easter).

We will wear masks during indoor, in-person gatherings.

Inhibits SARS-CoV-2 droplet and aerosol transmission.

We will enable distancing of 6 ft or more during in-person gatherings

Reduces risk of infected individuals spreading virus to others.

We will limit indoor service registration numbers according to community spread.

Allows for the control of physical distancing and total numbers in the space.

    EASTER

We will be holding our Easter service outside in the parking lot.

Masks are recommended however those who, for specific reasons, can not wear a mask are most welcome.

If inclement weather we will be meeting in the Union (which is the building next door). The Union is well ventilated and spacious so will also mitigate the risk of spreading covid 19.

Again, we recommend masks but if there is a specific reason you can not wear a mask the space is ventilated such that the risk is addressed.

After our Easter worship time we will be celebrating in smaller groups this year! If you'd like to sign up to have time with others you can do so here. Groups of approx 10 will be meeting in outdoor spaces to celebrate together. If you'd like to host a group you can also do that on the registration page.

If you have a group you'd already like to celebrate with sign up for an easter kit.

If you would like to volunteer to help set up chairs or serve coffee at the outdoor worship service please contact Megan (megan@missiodeislc.com).

Below you will find updated information about Missio, for this week, as well as resources and tools to help us be a people of peace and presence.

    New Rhythms

When we lose our normal rhythms we can lose our sense of connection, depth, and stability. So one of the most powerful things we can do in this season is establish new rhythms that help us stay grounded in God and focused on the needs of others.

To help us establish new rhythms we will be sending out, midday, a practice guide with brief readings, prayers, and suggested practices to ground our day and encourage the formation of new rhythms.

This may feel like the perfect time to binge-watch Love is Blind, but our hearts, families, and communities need us to be present not distracted, rested not preoccupied. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t watch TV, just don’t watch ALL the TV; instead call a friend, go on a prayer walk, check-in on a neighbor–– practice presence to God, self, and others.

    Care Team

To love and serve our city and community we are forming a care team; a group of volunteers from our community who can meet the needs of the city and community (while following CDC recommendations); like running errands, making phone calls, or helping with child care. These small gestures can have a huge impact on our community and city.

Learn more or sign up as a volunteer for the care team click here.

If you or someone you know has a need click here.

    House Church

More than ever, we need the community House Churches provide but we also want to act wisely in order to limit the spread of Covid-19. We are asking all our House Churches to limit gathering size to 10 by either breaking into smaller groups in different homes or through digitally hosting House Church online. Each House Church will be provided a zoom link through which they can host gatherings.

If meeting in a HC of 10 or less it is necessary to practice proper preventive measures:

Encourage people to stay home if they are sick

Provide ways to participate in House Church without physically attending (i.e. zoom)

Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds

Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue

Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily

    Do not share food

Earlier today, in response to rising concerns about Covid-19, Governor Herbert recommended limiting public gatherings of over 100 people for at least two weeks to limit the spread of the disease. Based on that recommendation, the wisdom of other churches in the valley, the advice of medical experts, and the joint discernment of our leadership team, we have decided to cancel our next two corporate Sunday gatherings.

This decision is motivated by a desire to love and serve our community and neighbors, specifically those most vulnerable. Simply by limiting our public gatherings we can help limit the spread of Covid-19.

Most importantly Missio, we are the church and we believe this moment provides us with a unique opportunity to be the church; a people empowered to join God in loving and serving our city. SO how can we love our city in this moment?

First, by being a non-anxious presence, deeply rooted in trust, offering and extending the peace of Christ to every person and place.

Second, by looking to the needs of others before our own. Let us not be a people who horde and worry, but instead let’s be a generous people who consider the needs of others especially the most vulnerable.

Third, by serving those around us. This includes taking the proper preventative measures but can also look like running errands for the elderly and immunocompromised. Let’s think creatively and boldly about the ways we love.

For this coming Sunday, we may not be able to gather corporately but that doesn’t mean we cannot worship. On Sunday morning we will send out, through email and social media, an at home worship guide. If you are symptom free, consider hosting a small group of people to participate in the worship liturgy and pray for one another.

During the week we will continue to meet together in house churches unless otherwise directed.

As the situation unfolds we will continue to update the community.

We’re sad to miss a gathering but so thankful to be rooted in the God of the universe and to be a member of Jesus’ body when our world, as always, is in need of his presence.

    Details:

Sunday services are canceled March 15th & 22 with potential cancellations depending on developments.

This Sunday morning we will email and post to social media a special Sunday liturgy, bible study, and additional ways to worship as the church in your own home.

House Churches will continue to meet throughout the week.

Continue to check your email and social media for further updates.
