Luke 19:29–44
Encourage someone to read the passage aloud. Then ask:
What stood out to you from the reading?
What emotions or images does this passage stir in you?
Reflection & Discussion Questions
🟤 Seeing Jesus as King
The crowd celebrates Jesus as King. Why do you think that’s significant?
What kind of king were the people expecting? What kind of king are we often hoping for?
In what ways is Jesus’ kingship different from what we might want or expect?
🟤 False Peace vs. True Peace
Jonny shared that the disciples wanted peace through victory, while the Pharisees wanted peace through quiet and control.
– Which of these do you personally resonate with more—and why?Jesus offers a third way: shalom—wholeness, healing, restoration.
– What do you think true peace looks like in your life? In our community?
– Where do you see false peace being mistaken for the real thing?
🟤 Power, Sacrifice, and the Way of the Cross
Jesus doesn’t seize power—he gives himself.
– How does this redefine what real power looks like? How does the idea of sacrificial love challenge or encourage you?
– Can you think of a time someone’s love disarmed conflict or tension in your life?
🟤 Becoming People of Shalom
Jonny said, “The kind of peace we want determines the kind of power we trust—and the kind of people we become.”
– What kind of person is Jesus inviting you to become?
– Are there any places in your life where you need to trade force for love or control for trust?
Practice & Prayer
Spiritual Practice
This week, reflect on the kind of “king” you follow.
In quiet prayer, ask: Where am I resisting Jesus’ way of peace? Where am I tempted to grasp power instead of trust?
Write down one area of your life (a relationship, a decision, a wound) where you want to practice shalom instead of control or force.
Group Prayer
Close by inviting group members to pray:
For eyes to see Jesus as he truly is.
For courage to follow him in the way of peace.
For hearts and communities to be marked by shalom.
Optional: Pray the Lord’s Prayer together to end.
