Read 1 Kings 19:1-15
● Just notice what goes on in this passage, not interpreting it but just noticing. What words
catch your attention? What actions do you notice?
● What is Elijah experiencing?
● What do you notice about how the Lord interacts and shows up for Elijah?
● Why do you suppose the Lord asks Elijah “what are you doing here?”
● When have you been so tired that you felt you needed to quit?
● Elijah encountered God in the “gentle whisper,” the “sheer silence.” Do you find quiet
and stillness helps you encounter God? Or is quiet hard for you?
● How might stillness before the Lord be something that refreshes your soul and helps you
walk in your journey?
● Luke 5:16 is one of the places where we learn Jesus would go away from people and
places and pray. Why do you suppose this was his practice?
Prayer Response:
Take 60 seconds and be utterly still and quiet.
Then, reflect on where you are “on the road” of faith. What word or words would you use
to describe that?
As if you were Elijah standing at the mouth of that cave, ask God to speak whatever it is
he wants to tell you.
Try to listen as best you can.
End by thanking him for being with you.
