Weekly Update 3.7.19
March 7th, 2019
Holy Words. During this season of Lent we are entering into a series exploring the Psalms of Lament. Most of us don’t have tools to worship and pray through the fullness of human life. The Psalms of Lament give us freedom and tools to live in all the complexity of human life. Like the Psalms of Lament, the season of Lent challenges our sentimentality by drawing us into the temptation, suffering, and death of Jesus––and in turn our own. And like the Psalms of Lament, the season of Lent shows that even the hard of our lives are Holy Words and that God, in Jesus, literally entered into it with us, to be present––body to body. Daylight Savings. Get ready to 'spring forward' this weekend with daylight savings time. Don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night. See you at 9am or 11 am on Sunday!
Easter Planning Meeting. Easter is a big deal at Missio. Every year we throw a huge party to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection which includes food trucks, bounce houses, desserts, and more. The party is, what it is, because it’s put on by the people of Missio. If you want to be a part of throwing the Easter party, join us after either the 9am or 11am service in the volunteer lounge for a quick Easter planning meeting.
The Peoples Theology. The latest episode with Leonce Crump, former New Orleans Saint, founding pastor of Renovation Atlanta, and author of the book Renovate. Leonce's story is encouraging and challenging and will force us to ask some good questions about the life and work of Jesus' people. Subscribe at iTunes, Stitcher, or Google Play.
Change For A Dollar. First Star is a non-profit that serves foster youth by supporting them through high school and on to higher education. 3 teenagers from Missio are currently in First Star and have been positively impacted through their programs. We can serve by helping some families with housing deposits and even winter coats. We'd like to have funds available to meet some of these needs as they arise. Click here, and select change for a dollar in the menu, to donate. Or if you are a mechanic willing to volunteer, email Jenny.
