9.9.18 Reflection & Liturgy

Reflection, Prayer, Liturgy

We gather today because our God
Binds the brokenhearted
And proclaims liberty to the captive.

We gather today because our God
Comforts the mourning
And brings beauty from ashes.

We gather today because our God
Redeems what is broken
And makes anew what was wronged.

And we gather today because our God
Makes disparate peoples into
A family of saints.

Missio, this is your call to worship.

The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
    because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Missio, the day of the Lord has come, go now and proclaim the good news. Go now, in the grace of God, and be the church this week.

Missio, go into this city, in the grace and hope of Jesus, and be the church this week.
