1.21.18 Liturgy

Each week, we gather as community to witness to the work of Jesus in the world. Sunday gatherings aren't just about seeing friends (though that's great) or drinking good coffee (though we do have the best). Sunday's are about experiencing and practicing the Kingdom of Jesus. By gathering together around the table we show the world that God is doing something and at the same time we learn what it looks like to practice and participate in this thing Jesus is doing. Each piece of our service is a part of that experience and practice.

Doxology & Call to Worship

We gather this morning the people of Jesus:
A people named, called, and known by love.

We gather this morning to celebrate that Love always overcomes hate:
No darkness can extinguish it, no violence consume it, no misdeed undo it.

And we gather this morning to be formed into Love:
To have our every thought and action be an extension of the love we have received.

We gather this morning
In the name of
Our present God,
Our conquering King
And our comforting Savior.

Missio, this is your call to worship.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 5 You shall love the Lordyour God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

We need to reclaim a politic of love; we have lost the resource to creatively engage the world because our imaginations are shaped by a fallen politic of power and violence.

A benediction is an invitation. An invitation to leave this place with what we have heard, said, and sung on our hearts. It is an invitation to GO into all the spaces SENT as the people of Jesus.

Missio: You are a people named and known by love.
Go now. Love is with you.

Missio: You are a people with a story of love that crisscrosses history, the cosmos, and everything in-between.
Go now. Love is with you.
Missio: You are sent to love. Never outside of or away from the love of Jesus but with it.
Go now. Love is with you.

Let us go, in the name
Of the almighty God,
Of the Son,
And of the Holy Spirit.

Go in love and be the church this week.
